new work

Recent paintings - new botanical illustrations are added as they are completed or as work in progress. These realistic fine art paintings are watercolour on paper or on vellum and range from flowers to vegetables, some are depicted with seeds and roots. Most of the plants are grown here in my French garden, situated in the Loire Valley.

botanicalannie

In 2010 Annie left the UK and is now located in the Loire valley in France,  where she is perfectly located in Champigny sur Veude, where she grows and collects unusual and interesting plants to paint. She combines traditional drawing and painting skills with lively contemporary compositions. Her original botanical paintings are watercolors on paper and vellum with some in gouache or oil.

Plant subjects range from tulips to cabbages and each botanical painting is unique and painted from a 'real' plant and can take many hours/weeks of work.

botanical illustration

is a way of identifying and documenting plants for scientific records. Used for many centuries it is still used today.

contemporary botanical art

requires accuracy in color, form and detail to realistically represent a plant but in less formal compositions. Botanical artists focus on the aesthetics, choosing details and close ups and sometimes selecting

just one section of a plant.
